The UIC Senate has legislative responsibility for the educational policy of the university and, through its Senate Committee on Educational Policy (SCEP), contributes to the development and maintenance of educational programs of the highest quality that conform to the stated mission of UIC and the University of Illinois System.
In addition, the University of Illinois Statutes also provide for Senate review and action in the formation of new units (e.g., departments, schools, colleges, centers, institutes) and changes in the academic organization of existing units (e.g., termination, separation, transfer, merger, change in status, or renaming).
